Acne & Blemish Treatment

Acne is not only a problem specific to adolescence, it is a common skin condition that can be seen at any age and can negatively affect a person’s quality of life and self-confidence. The condition is not only characterized by active pimples; it is further complicated by red or brown spots and scars, which are permanent tissue defects left behind after the healing process. Effective treatment requires a holistic approach, tailored to the individual, addressing all aspects of this problem. The ultimate goal of the treatment is not only to cleanse the skin of existing lesions, but also to control future occurrences, resulting in a smooth, healthy and blemish-free skin surface.

The first and most important step in the treatment process is to control active acne lesions. For this, a detailed analysis of the skin is first performed by a specialized physician. Understanding the type of acne (comedonal, papular, pustular or cystic), its severity and the general structure of the skin is essential to determine the most appropriate treatment protocol. At this stage, medical skin treatments that regulate the sebum balance of the skin, clean the pores and reduce inflammation, chemical peels containing ingredients such as salicylic or glycolic acid, and topical creams or oral medications prescribed by a physician may form the basis of the treatment plan. This first step is critical for the success of the treatment, as moving on to spot and scar treatment before the active acne is under control will cause the problem to repeat itself.

After the acne is under control, the focus is on the treatment of the scars left behind. These scars are usually examined in two main categories: Color changes and tissue disorders. Color changes in the form of red or brown spots are the result of the inflammatory process that the skin undergoes after acne. In the treatment of such blemishes, technologies such as chemical peel series that gently peel off the top layer of the skin to regenerate it, light systems such as BBL (BroadBand Light) or Q-Switched lasers are used to even skin tone and target pigmentation. These methods help to achieve a more homogeneous and luminous skin tone.

Textural scars, which are the most stubborn form of acne scars and appear as depressions or ridges on the skin surface, require repair in the deeper layers of the skin. The main goal in the treatment of such scars is to trigger the skin’s own collagen production to fill these depressions from the inside and make the skin surface smooth again. One of the most commonly used methods in line with this goal is micro-needling systems such as Dermapen. These systems create controlled micro-damage on the skin surface, activating the body’s natural healing mechanism and triggering intensive collagen production. For deeper and more prominent scars, more advanced technologies such as Fractional Laser (CO2 or Erbium) are used, which penetrate the lower layers of the skin and initiate a powerful reconstruction process. By peeling the skin in a controlled manner and heating the underlying tissue, these lasers both smooth the surface and tighten the skin.

Often the most successful results are achieved with combined treatment protocols that combine these different technologies on an individualized basis, rather than relying on a single method. For example, a treatment that starts with chemical peels can continue with micro-needling sessions and finally be completed with light systems for remaining color irregularities. It is important to remember that acne and blemish treatment is a process that requires patience and regularity.
